The Liberal Democrats have totally let down the residents of Maidenhead. Wasting the last 4 years, their failure to improve Maidenhead's town centre means that there is even more need for a re-vamp - but without it being used as a political football.
The Council's recent orange document 'Discussion Draft' for the town's future to 2026 was launched in January this year citing many partner organisation's aims and plans. Yet none of the partners were involved in its production - and we think more needs to be done in the next 5-10 years, not wait for the next 20 years.
Cllr David Burbage said "The Conservatives have a good working relationship with the Civic Society, the Chamber of Commerce and the Maidenhead Waterways Restoration Group. We will seek to improve the town in partnership with all interested parties, strengthening the town's cross-party and partnership boards - a 'can do' attitude from the Council is so badly needed."
In recent months, parking enforcement has disappeared leading to a chaotic situation, and despite the Council's Liberal Democrats knowing about the problem for months, took no action, until once again they were shamed into action by the local press.
We continue to work with Theresa May MP to fight to improve Maidenhead's health services, rail services and to have a unified voice in making representations to Government.
We Will :
Support and develop further the ideas from the orange "2026" discussion document on a cross party basis to improve the town
Use the increased number of community wardens to improve the town centre environment, and across the town, cracking down on litter, graffiti and antisocial behaviour
Meet with retailers and landlords to give a 'facelift' to the more run-down buildings in the Town Centre, using the Council's powers to remove eyesores from the town and suburbs
Build a supportive partnership with Maidenhead Waterways Restoration Group to bring a real chance of revitalising the York Stream and High Street
Increase efforts to provide a 'one-stop-shop' for the police in the High Street, supporting the fight against petty crime and disorder
and, from our Over-development pledges
Protect the Green Belt, and fight hard using local policies to protect green gardens
