Adam Afriyie with onstreet parking meter in central Windsor

Much of the Liberal Democrat Council's capital expenditure has been based in Maidenhead, and much of that within the Council's own buildings. Windsor's taxpayers have been totally let down by the local Liberal Democrats.

The Liberal Democrats promised a "street by street" review of parking. Instead of any effective changes, they simply increased the prices, increased the fines and have now reduced the number of off-street parking spaces by over 100. They had also promised to make evening parking free for Advantage Card holders, but failed to deliver on this promise.

Dee Quick, leading Conservative campaigner for Windsor said, "It is time that consideration was give to local people in Windsor and we will make short term on-street parking free for Advantage Card holders. With more Community Wardens on the ground we also plan to reduce anti-social behaviour"

Aircraft noise cannot be allowed to get worse and we will continue to fight Windsor's corner on statutory and lobby groups such as HACAN, working with our MP Adam Afriyie to improve health, rail and other services to Windsor - and retain the threatened 24 hour fire service.

We will :

  • Make short term on-street parking free for Advantage Card holders
  • Maintain our support for the existing service levels at Windsor Fire Station
  • Use the increased number of community wardens to improve the town centre environment, and across the town, cracking down on litter, graffiti and antisocial behaviour
  • Review yellow lines lines to try to free up additional onstreet parking places in Windsor, and seek to provide additional off-street parking
  • Continue strong stance and campaign against increasing aircraft noise and night flights with other Councils, HACAN and other groups
  • Identify - and follow-up - funding opportunities for development of a Borough Museum to be based in Windsor consistent with minimising capital cost to the Council
