The Royal Borough has had no shortage of success in its schools which consistently perform well. However, in a number of areas there are challenges and we must not be complacent, as a Local Education Authority, to allow poorly performing schools to provide a failing education for our children.
The Government has invested a great deal of money into the Education system and direct grants now fund the Borough's schools. However, the Local Education Authority (ie the Council) still have a number of significant areas of responsibility.
Cllr. Elizabeth Hawkes said, "Our teachers and Governors are doing a great job. The Borough is in the top 20 Councils for GCSE examinations and we can be proud of the overall results produced by the Borough's Schools. But we cannot be complacent, so Conservatives will work with schools and parents to get even better, and ensure the very best life chances for our young people."
Cllr. Hawkes went on to say, "We are delighted that the Government has committed £23.6 million of taxpayer's money for the rebuilding of Holyport Manor Special School. This will be a superb facility to aid the development of our most disadvantaged pupils."
We Will :
Support the rebuilding of Holyport Manor School locally
Work to ensure access from the surrounding villages of Windsor for Borough children to the Windsor middle and upper schools without penalty
Investigate levels of out-of-Borough children being educated in schools to ensure Borough parents are not being penalised
Support Heads and Governing bodies in achieving high standards of discipline, combatting any antisocial behaviour or crime relating to schools
Review school catchment areas anomalies eg Desborough School in Maidenhead does not have, in its own catchment area, the road that the school itself is on.
