Leisure, Culture and the Community

Adam Afriyie MP with Councillor Jesse Grey outside a closed youth centre

Despite Libdem promises to 'fully support' a heritage centre and a town museum for Windsor, in reality, little has happened. The Maidenhead Heritage Centre had to raise significant funds to finance its own centre whilst the Libdem Council spent millions improving its own office accomodation.

Voluntary organisations are the lifeblood of the community and we will ensure that the Council's ethos is to work closely with partner organisations, bringing them into the decision making process rather than leave them on the outside. Our youth facilities and services must be supported, not cut.

Cllr Jesse Grey, Conservative spokesman on Leisure commented, "I wish to reinvigorate our Leisure Centres to provide top quality services. My ambition is to attract more people from every age group in our community to take part in the wide range of activities on offer that promote fun and a healthier lifestyle."

Cllr. Grey went on to say, "I believe that we can combat anti-social behaviour by better meeting the recreational needs of our youth and we commit to doing more through greater investment in the Youth and Community Service."

We will :
  • Ensure our leisure centres provide top quality services to the public
  • Improve our parks, combatting litter and vandalism
  • To provide extra funding for Youth in the Community, to promote more facilities and staff time to meet the local needs of young people (ie 11+), and to support vulnerable children
  • Support a new Park Ranger service
